INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE CANDIDATE SCHOOL

Young Diplomats Magnet Academy has the honor to be one of the first public schools in District 3 to have been accepted as 'An International Baccalaureate Candidate School'. What does that mean? It means that students at YDMA are experiencing learning through inquiry based exploration lessons that support their individual curiosity and prepare them to be globally minded citizens. The YDMA community has chosen a school theme that will foster our scholars to be young diplomats. Through their educational experience at YDMA students will cultivate a caring view of how our world works, the impacts they can make to make the world a better place, and take action at their young ages to making a difference.

COMMUNITY WORKS DANCE PROGRAM

Community Works supports our scholars experience in becoming globally minded citizens through their amazing dance program. All students at YDMA participate in dance where students get to experience dances from around the world. Currently Community Works is working with each grade on a dance that represents the countries or regions that each grade is exploring such as the Red Ribbon Dance from China in grade 3.

Reach the World

Reach the World is an amazing program that allows our scholars at YDMA to travel across the world through the experience of a student who is traveling and studying abroad. Each class is paired with a college student who has chosen to study abroad for a year. These college students maintain contact with our students through a website set up by Reach the World and they get to blog, ask questions and Skype with the traveler. Some of the countries where students will connect with a traveler are: Scotland, Malta, Rwanda, France, China, Japan, Argentina, and Spain.

THE LAMP PROGRAM FOR GRADES 3RD TO 5TH

The Lamp program is a unique media program that allows students to explore and learn about the use of media in today's society. Through The Lamp program students will study the art of persuasion through commercials and dialogue used in news casts. Students will explore how media affects us today, and will have the opportunity to formulate their own commercials and news casts to support their global studies yearly projects.

DANCING CLASSROOMS FOR GRADE 4

Students in 4th grade participate in the Dancing Classrooms: Colors of the Rainbow program that provides a unique experience of learning ballroom dancing to build social awareness, confidence and self esteem through the practice of social dance. Students participating will experience learning the vocabulary of ballroom dance, develop the maturity to dance together, respect each other, build teamwork, confidence, a sense of joy, and accomplishment.
